Want to do your part in helping our planet? Well, one simple way to do that is by using reusable products. This will eliminate unnecessary waste ending up in landfills. In this post I’m going to share 5 reusable products you’ll actually use that you can purchase today for little cost and use pretty much daily.
The following products are in no particular order. They are great alternatives to use in your every day life. You’ll not only eliminate producing unnecessary waste but you’ll also save money in the long run!
Reusable water bottle
If you drink water throughout the day (as you should be), the best way to do it is by using a reusable water bottle. Not only are you contributing to relieving the planet from plastic waste, but you’re also saving money from not buying cases of water all the time. There are so many different types of water bottles out there now at different price points. I recommend finding a BPA free one. Purchasing a quality one will go a long way.
I used a glass one for a few years until it broke one day. Since then, I’ve been using a BPA-Free Nalgene water bottle that has lasted me over 5 years so far. You can find one on amazon for less than $20. Glass or steel bottles are also great options to replace drinking bottled water every day.
Reusable grocery bags

This is one of the best ways to reduce plastic waste. Typically when we grocery shop, we end up using too many plastic bags. This can all be prevented by using reusable bags not only to carry your groceries home, but to hold your produce too. If you think about it, you only need to transport your items from the store to your car and then from your car to your home. By bringing your own bags, you’ll make a huge impact. The most difficult part here is to get in the habit of bringing the bags with you when you go shopping.
I have a mini collection of reusable grocery bags that I like to keep in my car. I’ve purchased a few directly from my favorite grocery stores and lately, I’ve been bringing a plastic tote with me to make it easier when I grocery shop for a lot of items. My all time favorite reusable bag is one up-cycled using recycled billboard material. It is by far my sturdiest bag that holds the most weight without concerns. You can find one on Etsy and although they involve a bigger investment, they are worth the price because of their durability.
Reusable food storage bags
Since we’re on the topic of food, another great way to eliminate plastic waste is by using reusable food storage bags. Since they’re made out of silicone, they are microwave safe, dishwasher safe, freezer safe and some are even leak proof. Honestly, you can even use these types of bags for travel to store your toiletries or other small items.
I love using mine to freeze bananas for my smoothies. I also fill up small ones with snacks like trail mix and take them with me on hikes or roadtrips. I’ve also used these bags when I travel to keep small items together. You can find a variety of them on Amazon for an affordable price.
Reusable face cloths

Using reusable cleansing rounds are another great way to reduce landfill waste. They can be used to apply your face toner or to remove makeup. You can get a pack of 20 organic hemp cotton rounds for less than $20 from Etsy. You’ll even see options of fun designs you can choose from.
I’ve had mine for years that I love using with my face toner. After using one, I place it in my small washable reusable bag (the same kind I use for produce) until I’ve accumulated enough to wash together.
Steel straws
Steel or glass straws are such a great alternative to single use plastic straws. There’s so many options to choose from whether you go with glass, silicone or stainless steel ones. There’s even travel ones that collapse into a portable easy to carry size so you can take them with you while you’re out and about. It may feel weird busting out your own straw at a restaurant but it’ll feel easier with time (especially if you’re using it to drink your water).
You can get a pack of your favorite kind on Amazon for less than $10. Most packs come with a cleaning brush making it a no brainer to switch over to these. I love my two different kinds: the regular size glass ones and my extra wide steel ones for my thick smoothies. This is one of my favorite reusable products.
Menstrual Cup

I saved the best for last. Using a menstrual cup not only eliminates material and packaging waste from pads or tampons, but they are safer to use. Unlike tampons, you can wear a cup for up to 12 hours since they’re made out of silicone. It may feel super intimidating to use one especially if you’re a First-Gen daughter of immigrants that’s expected to use pads until marriage (smh lol) but once you give it a try, you won’t go back to using anything else.
The first one I got is the Diva cup and I used it for around 7 years until I decided to try a new one. Currently, I’m using the Lena cup but I don’t love it tbh. I have my eye on the Saalt one next so I’ll keep you posted. I gotta say I love that menstrual cups have gone mainstream lol. There’s so many different kinds out there now which is great to see. Let’s not forget that you’re going to save so much money overtime using this amazing product.
