It’s never too late to begin to improve your health. When you implement a healthy lifestyle, you’ll look and feel so much better. Your energy levels increase, your mood improves and your body will physically show you results too. In this post I’m sharing 7 ways to improve your health so that you can feel better inside and out!
They say “health is wealth.” However, I feel like people don’t fully understand those words until they unfortunately face an illness or a health condition. Without your health nothing else matters though because you can’t fully give your energy and attention to anything else if you are sick or feel discomfort. That’s why it’s important to prioritize your health and your body, starting today.
This year, I’ve been focusing on my health and wellness and after remaining consistent with working out and eating healthy, I am seeing and feeling results. I have consistent energy throughout my day which I love, I feel happier and my body is stronger and fitter. The hardest part is getting started and staying consistent but once you push through, you’ll find yourself craving healthy habits and it will become a part of your lifestyle. Continue reading for 7 ways you can improve your health.

1. Make time for exercise
One of the best ways to improve your health is to make time for some exercise. This doesn’t have to be complicated. You don’t need to have a gym membership or spend money on this. Simply going on a couple of walks or runs each week will make a huge difference over time. You can also find plenty of free workouts on YouTube whether you prefer yoga, dance/cardio, or strength training.
The most challenging part about this is getting started and pushing through the initial discomfort. If you’re beginning this habit or have been inconsistent with it in the past, you have to make the decision to implement it going forward. Start slow by working out once or twice a week in order to build your self-trust. Then increase the number of days overtime. Lay out your workout clothes (and shoes) the night before, hold yourself accountable by sharing your intention with friends, you can even share your journey with your friends on social media.
2. Get more sleep
Another way to improve your health is to get more sleep. Even if you’re able to function on a couple of hours of sleep, that doesn’t mean you should continue doing that. It will affect your health eventually in a negative way. Your body restores itself during sleep which reduces your chances of getting sick and it benefits your mental and emotional health too. Keep in mind that the quality of your sleep matters so much as well. So consider getting blackout curtains, put your phone away while in bed, and turn the temperature down to make your room cooler. You will feel much better all around when you consistently get more sleep (aim to get around 7 hours).
3. Drink more water
The next way to improve your health is to drink more water. We are made of mostly water and drinking it benefits the body immensely. It maintains your body temperature, it lubricates your joints and tissues and it helps with digestion, to name a few examples. If you didn’t grow up drinking a lot of water, this can be challenging at first. Again, you’re able to implement this habit with effort and patience.
Try getting a cute water bottle that you’ll want to reach for and aim to finish it by a certain time of the day. Then increase the amount (depending on your weight) over time. Another tip is to always drink water when you think you’re hungry because chances are you may be dehydrated. If you’re still hungry after drinking some, then it’s time to get food.
4. Choose quality foods
Another way to improve your health is by fueling your body correctly. Your body is a temple and you are what you eat. So treat it with love and respect by feeding it quality foods. Your body does so much for you on a daily basis so the best way to appreciate it is by taking care of it. Incorporate more whole plant based foods. “Eat the rainbow” because this will give you a variety of nutrients and different benefits that your body needs.
If you grew up eating unhealthy foods like I did, changing or elevating your diet will require a lot of effort. Processed foods are intentionally addictive so now that you are aware of that, choose to stay strong and push through the initial discomfort. With time, you’ll find that your tastebuds will adapt to your healthier diet and of course you’ll feel a positive difference internally and externally as well.
5. Follow your joy
The next way you can improve your health is by following what makes you happy. Life is meant to be fun, therefore it is time to seek out the things that light you up. This applies to having fun and feeling good, however, it also applies to the people in your life. It’s okay if you outgrow friends. It is what it is, no one is better than anyone else so choose to move on from people who drain you or bring you down.
Laugh more by watching funny videos online or stand up comedy. Hang out with people that make you happy. Take time to go within and figure out what actually brings you joy. Maybe tap into your inner child and do things that you didn’t get to do when you were little. By following your joy, you’ll feel more optimistic, your immune system will improve and you’ll live longer.
6. Prioritize preventative care
Get annual checkups to stay on top of your health. Even if you feel healthy, it’s important to at least get routine blood work done to see if you lack vitamins or nutrients. It also helps to know your family health history keeping it in mind when seeking preventative care. Remember to advocate for yourself at all times, asking any and all questions you may have when speaking with healthcare professionals.
7. Listen to your inner guidance
Finally, the last way you can improve your health is by listening to your intuition. Your body is always communicating with you so listen to any messages or signs it’s giving you. Honor your body. If you feel tired, give yourself permission to rest if you’re able. When you’re feeling “off,” take time to pause and ask yourself what’s wrong. The answers are always within.
Final thoughts
A final thought I have about the different ways to improve your health is more of an observation and reminder…all of these ways are free! The only one that costs money is #4 (choosing quality foods) but the way I see it, it’s better to invest in that in order to prevent getting sick later. You’ll end up paying more in the long run if you get sick by not only having to pay for medical costs but you’ll also spend time and energy having to recover. So make yourself a priority and begin to implement these ways to improve your health. It’s never too late to start and you’ll be so glad you started sooner than later!
