We all know it just feels good walking into a tidy space but do you know the actual benefits of decluttering? In this post I’m going to share all the different types of benefits you get when you declutter and get organized!
First, I know “life happens” and many times that can lead to clutter and a messy home. We’ve all been there at one point or another. Take a moment and think of the last time you truly decluttered a room. Sometimes it happens before or after a move. I’m sure you’ll recall feeling lighter after walking into the tidy space. Well there are not only mental health benefits but spiritual ones as well.
Mental health benefits of decluttering

You may have heard the phrase, “you are what you eat” when it comes to food. When it comes to a cluttered space, it can be a representation of your mental state. According to Psychology Today, “cleaning and organizing reduce anxiety.” They also mention that decluttering can reduce family tension in the household. It makes sense, especially the more people you share your household with.
A few other benefits of decluttering besides reducing stress and anxiety are an improvement in mood and self-esteem. When a space is organized, it feels like getting a form of control back because you now know where everything is. There isn’t anymore stress over finding things, and there’s no longer a sense of guilt over having a cluttered space. Decluttering creates a sense of peace and happiness.
Spiritual benefits of decluttering
One of the biggest spiritual benefits of decluttering a space is releasing. Think about it, having a bunch of clutter especially if it had been there for a long time, meant it had stagnant energy. So taking action and decluttering the space is shifting that energy. The “stuck” energy is now gone which signals to the Universe that you are also releasing energy blockages and energy patterns too. By releasing, you are raising your frequency in the process because chances are, you’ll be feeling lighter and happier in your decluttered space.

Everything carries energy. Some of the items you own carry memories from people or past experiences. Sometimes we hold on to things from a place of fear of letting go. We might think we need to keep ALL the items that belonged to a loved one to show we care, but in reality those memories will stay with us regardless. It is a choice to feel guilty about anything. After decluttering, I suggest cleansing the space by burning sage in order to really clear the energy.
Decluttering can definitely help with manifestation. When we declutter, chances are you are getting rid of things that no longer feel good to you. Letting go of material possessions with the right intentions is a signal to the Universe that you are clearing space and making room for your actual desires. The Universe will be more likely to give you what you desire after you release the things that no longer serve you.
Additional benefits of decluttering

Besides mental and spiritual benefits, decluttering causes you to take a look at every item you own. In doing so, you’re intentionally choosing what stays and what goes. A benefit is having the option of changing up the aesthetic look in your space. You also have the option of upgrading things you currently have because now you know exactly what you own. And finally, when you declutter and (hopefully) donate some of your belongings, you’re giving the opportunity to another person to possess and actually use (hopefully lol) the item.
Final Thoughts
I hope this post gave you the knowledge and encouragement to declutter your space. Now you can take action and take on that rewarding task of decluttering any spaces that are taking up mental space for you. I know for me, having a clutter-free home keeps me focused. It honestly is one less thing taking up space in my head giving me the mental energy to focus on other things. The more I continue to evolve and feel secure in myself and develop an abundance mindset, the less material things I feel that I need to own. I have made it a goal to keep my house tidy and organized no matter how much time passes living in it.
Every season of the year, I go around the whole house and evaluate if we need to keep everything we have in each closet or cabinet. I no longer feel like I need to keep things “just in case” because I simply choose to believe that there is more than enough in the world and I’ll find the item later on if and when I truly need it. Most of the time I forget what I got rid of and continue living my life como si nada.
