We’re all on an ever evolving journey that requires new levels of growth. This includes setting and accomplishing goals! In this post you’ll learn how to achieve your goals so that you can get to the next level of your life.
When it comes to goals, some people might feel intimidated by the concept. When you think about it, we weren’t really taught this in school. As First-Gen Latinas, we saw our parents work hard but the energy behind it was survival. If you were like me, you most likely just got by in school with the limited role models and guidance available at the time.
With each new generation, I believe there should be progress. Fortunately, we already have more resources than our parents did, which can come with its own set of challenges too. We were also born in a digital age so we have knowledge literally at our fingertips. Sometimes the only thing getting in the way is ourselves! I’m here to help you create and achieve your goals so that you can attain the life you were born to have.
The first step in achieving your goals is getting clear on what you actually want. It sounds pretty self-explanatory but as a daughter of immigrants who grew up with different struggles, simply choosing a goal may feel harder than it is for other people. This is where self-reflection comes into play. Taking the time to spend in solitude will help you learn more about yourself.
Some of the things you can do to begin this process is by meditating. Ask your higher self for guidance since everything you want to know is already within you. There are a bunch of guided meditations you can find on YouTube that can help you connect with your higher self. Ask your higher self what she’s working on and then ask her what steps you can take now to get closer to that goal.
Another way you can get some clarity is by journaling your thoughts. Set a timer for 5 minutes and without judgment, free write to any of the following prompts:
- “What do I want to accomplish this year?”
- “If I had all the money and resources in the world, what would bring me purpose?”
- “Where do I see myself in a year (or 2 or 5) from now?”
If you still feel stuck, try going back to basics and write down your favorite hobbies and interests to get the juices flowing and help you create a goal around things that bring you joy. The final part in this step is to write your goal down. Write it on a sticky note or in the very last page in your journal but also keep it in a note in your phone for easy access.
Take inspired action
Now that you have your goal written down, the next step involves taking inspired action. Notice the word “inspired” prior to action. As a recovering workaholic, I am stepping into and embracing working with the Universe to bring me inspired action steps. You can “hustle” all you want but without tapping into that inner voice, you can overexert yourself and burnout.
So what is inspired action? It is taking action from having a gut feeling or an exciting urge to do it. This is the Universe nudging you to get you closer to your goal. The way you tap into this is by taking a moment to pause and asking God/Source/the Universe for guidance. You can say it out loud or think it in your mind. Say the goal you want to accomplish and ask what is something you can do next. Then wait to receive any inner urges. It is normal if nothing comes to mind right away, just remain open to receive guidance and it will come.
When you do get a gut feeling to do something, please don’t hesitate and take the inspired action! It’s important to do this because if you question it, that defeats the purpose of tapping into this magical power. Sometimes the nudges we get seem weird or confusing because our logical minds want everything to make sense, but when you trust and take the inspired action, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how the Universe conspires to bring you what you want.
Once you decide to start taking inspired action, you’ll most likely find yourself feeling discomfort at times. It is normal and expected to face challenging moments when we level up in life. Our brains want to protect us so when we encounter something new, our nervous system can react by stressing out. One way to help regulate your nervous system is by taking calming deep breaths until you feel at ease. Another way is to use EFT tapping to calm you down. There are a bunch of videos on YouTube that you can follow along to.
Always remember to be gentle with yourself and to be your own biggest supporter. Your body simply wants to feel safe so you might need to remind yourself that you are safe and that there is nothing to fear. One thing to be aware of during this stage is self-sabotaging behaviors. Sometimes when we’re about to achieve our goals, we may do things that regress our progress. This comes from feeling unworthy or undeserving of what we want. Do “the work” around your thoughts by journaling them out and replacing them with better serving thoughts. You deserve everything you desire simply because you were born. This is process so be patient with yourself.
Celebrate your “wins”
Lastly, be sure to celebrate your wins! You are a badass making sh*t happen. I suggest writing down all the “little” accomplishments along with the “big” ones in your journal so that next time you need a pick me up, you can refer back to that ongoing list. It should bring some motivation and inspiration when you need it. The final step is gratitude! Once you achieve your goals take a minute or two to give gratitude for that moment. You can also write out a gratitude list of all the things you are grateful for that helped you achieve your goal.
I hope this post gave you tips on how to achieve your goals. I forgot to mention that you can always use positive affirmations during the whole process to keep your vibrations high. Visualization is also a great way to achieve your goals faster. See and feel yourself having accomplished your goal as part of your morning routine or before you fall asleep at night.
When working on intentionally leveling up in life, it is helpful to surround yourself with people who are where you want to be. Attend conferences, follow their social media pages, consume their content, etc. This will help bring you closer to your goal before physically achieving it because you’re training your mind to feel comfortable and safe around those new things.
