Growing in your personal development journey can involve becoming more spiritual. We are all connected, after all. In this post I’m going to give you some tips you can try that will help embrace your spirituality so that you can feel more connected to a higher power and to your inner self.
Whether you want to believe it or not, we are all spiritual beings in a human body. We all have an inner guidance that can’t be explained. You’ve felt a voice or feeling protect you at one point or another. You’ve experienced synchronicities that don’t make logical sense. These are some of the reasons why I chose this topic for this week’s blog.
As I reflected on my holiday weekend, I realized how proud I felt of my cousin embracing her spirituality. I took her and her daughter to a local crystal shop and saw how intrigued and interested they were in learning about items in the shop. I answered all the questions they had and that’s what pushed me to write this blog. We are all on an ever evolving personal journey and I want to share some ways to strengthen and embrace your spirituality.
One of the best ways to be more spiritual is to practice meditation. By taking the time to practice mindfulness through meditation, you’re allowing your connection to Source/God/your higher self to strengthen. This becomes a sacred time for you to achieve more peace and stillness as well. It will also help you become more present in your daily life. Finally, you may also find yourself discovering answers or guidance you’ve been seeking.
Meditating doesn’t have to be complicated. If you’re a beginner, all you have to do is start with 1 minute a day and slowly increase the length of time each week. Find a comfortable seat and simply sit in silence (with your eyes closed if you prefer). This might feel difficult at first but keep going until you build that muscle and find it feeling slightly easier with time.
Connect with nature
My next tip that will help you be more spiritual is to spend time outside. Catch sunrises or sunsets because the sun upgrades our DNA. Go on hikes because trees absorb negative energy. Ground yourself by walking barefoot on the earth. Use water to cleanse yourself by swimming or floating in bodies of water. Dance or walk in the rain since rain cleanses our aura. Connect with the moon to strengthen your psychic abilities.
All of these options are free and available to you. They always have been and our ancestors knew this knowledge since the beginning of time. It is up to you to make the intention to reconnect with nature as you choose to become more spiritual.
Practicing gratitude will change your life for the better. When you shift your mindset to one of gratitude, you start to recognize how blessed and spiritually guided you are. Gratitude will foster your spiritual connection in a deeper sense. There is always something to be grateful for and you can begin to implement this practice by writing down 3 things you’re grateful for each morning (or night). The longer you do this, the easier it will get.
Attend spiritual events
Another tip on becoming more spiritual is by attending local events. You can find some by looking at flyers posted on boards at local yoga studios or crystal shops. You can also join new age or spirituality groups on Meetup and attend online or in person events through those groups. I’ve found events through the Natural Awakenings free magazine I get from local grocery stores in my area.
Some of the events you can look for are sound baths (a meditative experience where you’re “bathed” in sound frequencies from gongs and sound bowls). Other events are yoga festivals, breathwork sessions, drum circles, Divine feminine healing circles, or ecstatic dances.
Practice dream work
Another way to become more spiritual is by analyzing your dreams. Make the intention to remember your dreams in the morning. Keep a journal on your nightstand and write them down first thing after waking up. By writing them down, you may find meanings or connections to your waking life.
You can even set intentions to receive answers or guidance to questions you may have. You can also connect with loved ones who are no longer physically earth side. This is a practice, meaning that it can improve with time. So don’t give up if you don’t consistently remember your dreams.
Move your body
My next tip is to move the energy in your body by practicing yoga, tai chi or ecstatic dance. Yoga is a great way to develop your spirituality because it focuses on the breath while physically moving your body. Tai chi and qi gong are also great ways to connect to yourself because they both incorporate a meditative mind. Ecstatic dance is a free-form dance practice where you intuitively move your body to the music.
Explore your ancestry
It’s important to connect with our ancestors especially being First-Gen Latinas. Learn about the cultural and spiritual traditions your ancestors practiced. Honor your ancestors by creating an altar or practicing rituals. If possible, visit significant sacred sights, which can help you connect to your ancestors. We all have a spiritual team waiting to guide and help us but they can’t intervene without your permission. So connect with them and let them know you’re ready to be guided on your journey.
A final thought I have about becoming more spiritual is to always keep an open mind. Use your discernment as you explore these ways to be more spiritual. Take what resonates with you and leave what doesn’t. There’s no right or wrong way to do it and everyone is on their own personal journey so there is no rush if it doesn’t feel right to you to explore this at this time.
