When it comes to leveling up your life, having confidence will accelerate your journey. The way you show up makes the biggest difference in the process. In this post I’m going to walk you through 4 steps you can use to build confidence in yourself so that you can create a life you love.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to speak at ONE Fest, a Yoga, Music + Healing Arts Festival in my current city. This was my first speaking engagement so of course it came with a bunch of different emotions but after receiving positive feedback, I decided to dedicate today’s blog on the same topic I presented.
When it comes to living a life you love, it requires intention and time. As much as I don’t want to accept it either, the journey tends to matter more than the destination. However, creating a life you love requires having confidence in yourself. You have to believe it is possible and you have to show up accordingly.
Before I proceed, I want to validate that (unfortunately) it’s natural to not feel your most confident self. With the rise of social media and other avenues, it can feel like you are not doing enough or that you are falling behind. It’s also easy to compare yourself to others, which can cause a lack of confidence in yourself. But with all that said, today is a great day to begin to change that! Continue reading to learn how to build confidence in yourself.

Acknowledge the present
The first step to consider when you choose to build confidence is to acknowledge your present circumstances. Take some time for self-reflection so you can recognize how you got to this present moment. Decide to take ownership of your life because at the end of the day, you have the power to create the life you want. Choose to forgive others and especially forgive yourself for anything that has been weighing you down.
You can also use the wheel of life to determine how you feel about your current circumstances. This tool can also help you determine which area you want to focus on. (Side note: it’s not possible to have a completely balanced life so keep that in mind when choosing areas of focus. There’s different seasons in life. For instance, this season could be geared towards focusing on your finances or career. Then after you feel better about those categories, you can focus on your love life, and so on).
Acknowledging the present will also help you recognize how you got here. You’ll see the patterns and cycles you’ve been following. This is all to bring awareness so that you can take this and progress forward.
Build self-trust
The next step required when choosing to build confidence in yourself is to develop your self-trust. Oftentimes, we don’t even recognize that we are lacking it. Have you set a goal for yourself and not followed through with it? Then later on you hesitate to even set goals again? Why bother, right? That’s because you’re not trusting yourself to accomplish them. Build your self-trust by taking baby steps. Set reasonable goals that you’ll accomplish with ease. Be kind to yourself in the process and choose to be decisive along the way.
Another way to build self-trust is to use “habit stacking” (which I got from the book Atomic Habits). The premise is that you add a new habit to a habit you already have. For example, if you’re looking to improve your health by being more active, place your workout clothes next to your toothbrush. Since you brush your teeth every morning (I hope), you’ll see your workout clothes when you reach for your toothbrush. This will push you to follow through with your new habit of working out in the morning (or whenever you brush your teeth lol).
Finally, a few other ways to develop your self-trust and build confidence are by using positive affirmations and using power postures. Again, begin with statements that you believe such as “I am open to becoming more confident” as opposed to “I am the most confident woman ever.” Say your positive affirmations in front of the mirror in the morning to reprogram your mind with these new thoughts. You can also listen to high frequency music that will raise your vibration and heal you internally.
Step out of your comfort zone
Once you begin to trust yourself with your word and with your goals, it’s time to take it a step further. Choose to step out of your comfort zone by challenging yourself with new experiences. In the beginning this will feel extremely difficult but once you do it the first few times, you’ll feel so proud of yourself and continue this practice. The purpose of this step is to become fearless with your endeavors. This helps build confidence overtime and before you know it you’ll be creating the life you’ve always envisioned for yourself.
Focus on the positives
The final step is to focus on the positives. Focus on the qualities you already love about yourself and use them as your superpowers. Remember to celebrate yourself every time you step out of your comfort zone or after you try new things. This will create the desire to continue doing it. Reward yourself by getting your favorite takeout one day or choose another simple way to celebrate yourself. Prioritize self-care and of course, always choose yourself. This will all help you build confidence in yourself over time.
Final thoughts
One final thought I have on how to build confidence is to refrain from comparing yourself to others. You are on your own path unique to you. So give yourself credit during your journey and remain focused on yourself. Comparison will derail you from your goals. Choose to create boundaries when necessary. And again, be kind to yourself and speak nicely to yourself también.
