When it comes to personal development, having a breakthrough creates so much opportunity for growth. They give you realizations or new discoveries you might’ve been seeking related to your life’s journey. In this post I’m going to share tips on what I personally do to experience breakthroughs so that you can try them out and seek some for your own personal growth journey.
This morning I had one of my biggest breakthroughs yet. It happened during my morning journaling session and it stopped me in my tracks as the release of tears began flowing. After everything was said and done, I felt lighter. So much peace can come from having these types of moments of realization. I now feel that I know myself better and can progress in an intentional way, facing my fears along the way. Here are some tips on how you can have a breakthrough on your own.

Become a clear channel
The way you fuel your body goes a long way. When you consume processed unhealthy foods as well as alcohol or other substances, you are doing yourself a disservice. Food is energy so choose plant based whole foods which will elevate your vibration. Avoid alcohol and drugs which numb you from your connection to your intuition.
Aside from fueling your body, I’m finding that movement makes a difference too. Whether you prefer to workout at a gym or simply go on long walks or even dance, getting that physical activity will provide so many benefits. Some of the main ones are an elevated mood thanks to those endorphins being released post workout and another is sleeping better at night.
Quiet your mind
My next tip when seeking a breakthrough is to quiet your mind. I realized I was overstimulating my brain with non stop music, noise or content. (I would even sleep using a white noise machine because I wasn’t comfortable in silence). Once I intentionally made room for silence, I felt a newfound sense of peace and stillness. By inviting silence, you’re allowing yourself to connect to your intuition that might be trying to communicate with you.
You can take it a step further by implementing a daily silent meditation practice. Simply sit comfortably in silence for as long as you feel comfortable, slowly increasing the amount of time if you want. By doing this, you’re opening yourself up to connecting with your higher self.
Set the intention
My next tip is to set the intention to have a breakthrough. We all have a team of spiritual guides waiting to help. They are ready for you to make the call since they’re unable to intervene without your permission. So set the intention to connect with them. One way to do it is by taking a moment to ground yourself. Take a deep breath and simply say out loud something along the lines of: “I am open and willing to receive any messages or breakthroughs meant for me at this time.”
You can do this at any time. One of my favorite times to do it is before falling asleep so that I receive the messages via my dreams. I keep a notebook on my nightstand to write down my dreams right after waking up. You can also do this before you meditate or before doing a meditative activity such as journaling, running/working out, driving, even showering.
Seek answers
My final tip to have a breakthrough is to seek answers. It kinda goes along with the previous tip of setting the intention but seeking answers requires receiving the information. The best way for me to have a breakthrough is to journal. The best prompt that has worked for me is asking, “what am I afraid of?” So I’ll literally start writing: “When it comes to X (work/money/love/etc) I’m afraid of …” and then without logically thinking, I write whatever comes to mind.
The trick is to trust yourself enough to let everything out. Even if you write unexpected things. That’s the whole point, isn’t it? So simply “free write” allowing the pen to do all the work as you let out your thoughts. Those are the answers you’ve been seeking.
If journaling isn’t for you (I hope you give it a try at least once though), then you can try recording a voice memo on your phone. Use the same prompt mentioned above and just word vomit onto your phone. You’re free to play back the recording or simply delete it afterwards.
Get additional help
I lied, this is my actual final tip. If you’re looking to progress in your life journey, then the best way to get breakthroughs is by working with a life coach. The reason why this works is because you’re speaking your thoughts and feelings out loud each week. You’re doing this while being guided for additional answers. You’re pushed to think outside the box, something your brain may not have allowed you to do in the past out of fear. Coaching sessions are a safe and confidential space where you can explore the root cause of deep rooted issues that have been blocking you from progressing. Final thoughts
A final thought I have about how to have a breakthrough is to give yourself the permission to do this. In order to experience these “aha moments” you have to be willing to recognize things you may not have wanted to recognize in the past. You may surprise or even shock yourself but that’s part of the journey. When you’re ready to seek answers, they will appear.
