From not running in over 2 years to completing my first 10k race in under an hour. Here is my success story on how manifestation helped me accomplish my goal!
The beginning
Let me go back back to summer of 2012 when it all began. The month was July and a friend of a friend had recently started a non-profit organization for Latina runners. I was intrigued and inspired to get my body in motion. Exercise wasn’t a part of my life at the time. I didn’t grow up seeing family members making that a priority especially since most of my relatives had labor-intensive jobs that took most, if not all, of their energy. It was time to change that for myself and generations to come (yes, it felt that deep).
I chose to begin running with the Latinas in Motion and by November of that same year, I completed my first half marathon with them. So in 4 months I went from never owning a pair of running shoes or running more than a mile, to running 13.1 miles non stop. I write all this to give you the context that I can be extreme sometimes.
Post half marathon

After completing the Philadelphia Half Marathon I stopped running cold turkey (again, extreme). I felt minor depression symptoms from the lack of endorphins I had been used to receiving from all the running. Please don’t do that, it was not the smartest idea. Anyway, I stopped running because at the time I had not been fueling my body correctly and the half marathon training caused me to lose weight and therefore look unhealthy. Fast forward to 2020, I had participated in about 3 short races without training, for fun.
First 10k race
In 2020 my partner and I had heard of the Around the Crown 10k race and we were intrigued. This race consists of running in Charlotte’s major inner loop, I-277. We signed up for it but it was canceled that year for obvious reasons. Still interested in it, we decided to sign up for it back in April of this year, two years after the initial try. Well, life happened as it always does and one day exactly a month prior to the race date, I remembered we had signed up for this 10k race.
I hadn’t ran in over 2 years although I felt somewhat in shape from practicing yoga and taking long walks with my dog, Reiki. After a quick Google search, I found a 4 week 10k training schedule and decided to go all in and follow it to a t. My partner couldn’t train or participate in the race due to a new job and this could’ve been a good excuse to not do it either but I didn’t let that stop me.
Training
I incorporated the 4 week training schedule into my busy calendar and shared my journey with you all through my Instagram stories. The first training day consisted of running 3 miles and I used all my mental power to accomplish that without stopping. I mentally prepared for each run prior to physically running by visualizing myself doing it first. Once I’d begin running, I would play my hype running playlist and mentally say affirmations to myself when I needed that extra push.
Some of the affirmations I used were the following:
- I am capable of everything I set out to do!
- My body is a running machine!
- This is easy, running is easy!
- I am strong, I am light, I got this!
- Hard things are easy for me!
- I always accomplish my goals!
- If anyone can do this, it’s me!
I also fueled my body as best I could this time around. I made sure to drink a bunch of coconut water (and regular water) after running and a hydrating smoothie consisting of some of my staples. Stretching was vital too, before and after each run. Finally, I used red light therapy on my knees and legs to speed up my recovery so I didn’t experience a lot of soreness this time around. I took all the practical action steps to train for this 10k. Oh yeah, I almost left out the detail that I made a personal goal to complete this race in under an hour.
Manifestation steps
The day before the race I fueled my body as best I could. I had my morning celery juice, my MUD\WTR latte followed by plant based healthy meals. I hydrated my body by drinking my coconut water. My body felt as prepared as it was going to be for this race so all that was left to do was the mental and manifestation work.
First
I scripted in my journal as if the race had already happened. I dated the page a day ahead (race day) and began writing with so much excitement and gratitude that it was done! My first 10k race was accomplished in under an hour and it felt so good!
I went on to write everything I was grateful for such as:
- the perfect running weather
- my running shoes and clothes
- my running playlist
- my AirPods
- the race organizers
- etc, etc, etc
Literally everything I could think of was written down in so much gratitude.
Next
I closed my eyes as I listened to my running playlist and visualized myself at the starting line. Not only did I see but I felt myself running the race around the city of Charlotte until I could feel my heart racing and my energy increase. I did this until I “saw” myself crossing the finish line while seeing the finish time of 58 minutes on the big screen. After crossing the finish line, I visualized myself recording Instagram stories to you guys. I told you it was done and that I had accomplished my goal of finishing the race in under an hour. My eyes welled up in tears during this part because I could legit feel this as if it had already happened in real life.
Finally
I finished with an EFT tapping session reclaiming my power so I could go all out and not play small. Sitting in stillness taking everything in after these steps was the final thing before getting to bed. I’m pretty sure I ran through the race again before I fell asleep and before I knew it, my alarm was going off the following morning.
Race day
Honestly, race day feels like a blur. I chose to start the race in a spot behind the 55 minute finisher pacer volunteer but I ended up losing him during a difficult hilly part. There were two parts of the course that almost caused me to want to give up on my goal. I had to use my mental strength and remain focused, taking one step in front of the other while focusing on my breath. It began to feel like a meditative practice to the point where everyone around me disappeared from my field of vision.
I knew the 60 minute finisher pacer volunteer was behind me the whole time so that was helpful. It wasn’t until I made it to mile 5 that said volunteer appeared next to me close to mile 6. I wanted to cry in desperation because I knew we were so close to the finish line but it was nowhere to be seen yet. I had to remind myself that my body is strong, my body is capable, I am a badass until I finally saw the finish line straight ahead after a final turn.
Holding the vision
At this point I was behind the volunteer and I was running as fast as my body physically could. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I pushed my body this much. I think the last time was at the half marathon 10 years ago. I tried my best to stay as close as possible to that volunteer and I ended up crossing the finish line in what I thought was an hour and like 20 seconds or something.
Once I finally stopped running I was a sweaty mess so walked a bit till I felt myself cooling down. I kept checking the race results website but my name wasn’t coming up, which made me nervous. Nevertheless, I felt proud of myself for completing my first 10k race in what I thought was an hour and less than a minute. It wasn’t until I got home that I got the text notification with my race results. I immediately clicked on the link leading me to my finisher certificate showing an official time of 59:32.1!!
Final thoughts

That’s the full scoop on how I successfully completed my first 10k race under my desired goal. Manifestation works!! You have to feel and experience everything before it physically happens. Our brains are more powerful than we know! The first step in any endeavor and/or desire is to decide. Then comes the rest of the steps.
You can do this with anything you want. Try it out next time you have something significant coming up to help you achieve the best results. The goal here is to FEEL it all before physically experiencing it. Use as many senses as you can. For example, I used my hearing (my music playlist) during the visualization and scripting practices. Try to incorporate sound or smells/scents, anything that will help you experience the outcome in your mind.
Last thought for you, our bodies are just as powerful as our brains. They are machines waiting for your direction. That’s why it’s important to fuel them properly, love them and care for them. I hope this post inspired you to reach your goals. Your desires are in your heart for a reason and they are waiting to be birthed. You owe yourself the favor to make them happen. Anything and everything is possible. You are capable of everything you set out to do.
