When it comes to progressing in life, there is one important factor that’s oftentimes missing. In this post I’m going to give you the missing piece that’s required for the key to success.
I decided to dedicate a blog post to this topic because I have been seeing it come up when working with my coaching clients. It doesn’t matter the type of progress my client is navigating. Whether it is a professional goal or a personal goal, I’m finding that when this piece is lacking it makes it difficult to proceed. Once it is decided, the overall bigger picture becomes clearer and the goal feels easier to attain.
The key to success
What I’m referring to is having a clear reason behind your desires, a.k.a knowing your “why.” When you take time to really think about why you want to achieve something, your entire mentality around it can shift. Everyone has goals they want to accomplish and understanding why you have said goal, it can truly help bring it to fruition. Our desires are placed in our heart for a reason. Discovering your “why” is the next step in achieving progress.
Why is it important
Having a clear “why” is important because it brings clarity to your desire. We often don’t even think about why we want something and because of that, we can push our desires away. Sometimes we can judge ourselves for wanting something or worse, we can unconsciously allow fear and uncertainty to take over and in turn simply not pursue what we want.

Aside from clarity, having a reason can also bring almost a sense of permission because now you know the deeper connection and meaning behind your desire. There is a new level of understanding that wasn’t there before. This can allow you to pursue your desires with confidence.
Finally, if you don’t know by now, having a “why” will create purpose behind it. Purpose is the driving force of success. By figuring out the purpose behind your goals, oftentimes you’ll discover that achieving your goal will benefit others, not just you. If you really think about it, I can argue that achieving your goal or attaining your desires benefits the world. Yes, it’s that deep. When you step into your power and attain your desires, you’ll feel happier, expansive, confident, etc. This version of you then affects your immediate circle in a positive way which trickles down ultimately benefiting the collective. The whole world benefits when you step into your higher self.
How to find your why
I always encourage my clients to “free write” why they want to achieve their certain desire. I tell them to set their phone timer to at least 5 minutes and without judgment or overthinking, just write everything that comes out on a piece of paper. Once the timer goes off, I encourage them to read the answer to themselves and then sit with it to take it in.

If “free writing” isn’t your thing, you can also simply make a list of all the reasons why you want to accomplish your desire. After finishing that list, you can also list how others will benefit from this as well. This can bring a sense of motivation to attaining your desire.
Other options for this process can be by simply meditating or spending solo quiet time in nature either walking or hiking. The answers can come to you when you’re in a meditative state open to receiving. Always remember to be neutral when seeking these answers because there’s no wrong answer.
A “heads up”
Being open during this whole pursuit is super important because you may find that once you begin this process, you discover you actually don’t even want to pursue your desire after all. This is okay! That is the purpose for this whole process. Inquiry is the key to success because you are finding the root answers because that’ll bring you clarity around the end result no matter what that looks like.
Discovering you actually don’t want to pursue the desire you had is still a “win” because you are no longer using up your energy. There is no “heavy” feeling around it. It is safe and totally fine if you pivot by changing up your goal or deciding to no longer pursue it all together. It’s possible to discover that you wanted that desire for the “wrong” purposes and want to change it to something you want. This inquiry brings light to deeper answers within you.
