What if I told you there’s a way to access your subconscious mind? In this post I’m going to share what hypnotherapy is, when it is used and what to expect during a session of your own.
(Disclaimer: This content is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Of course, always consult with a licensed medical professional if you have any questions about your mental health).
Before I begin, I want to share that I only write about topics I’ve tried myself. There are a bunch of alternative healing modalities I have tried thus far and I look forward to sharing them with you. This is one of them. I plan on publishing a follow up post about my personal session soon. This is the informative side so you can know what hypnotherapy is and try it out if it sounds right for you.
What is it?
Hypnotherapy is a type of psychotherapy that involves a heightened relaxed hypnotic state. It accesses parts of the subconscious mind to provide healing and clarity to the recipient. Hypnotherapy is guided by a trained and certified hypnotherapist.
When is it used?
Hypnotherapy is used for a variety of reasons. It is an alternative solution to alleviate unwanted conditions or issues ultimately creating positive change in the recipient. It also helps you heal and grow spiritually.
Hypnotherapy helps with the following conditions:

- Managing stress
- Anxiety
- Sleep issues
- Chronic pain
- PTSD
- Phobias
- Weight loss
- Grief of a loved one
Finally, hypnotherapy heals suppressed emotions that in turn alleviate unwanted patterns. This modality is a powerful option to help you heal if you have already tried traditional psychotherapy and/or other treatments.
What to expect during a session
A typical hypnotherapy session ranges from 60 minutes to around 2 hours. It all depends on the severity of the issue you’re trying to solve. You may find healing for one ailment after one session but other issues may involve more sessions. Sessions are typically guided in person but there are options to do it virtually and even over the phone. Sessions can range from $75 to $250.
First, you discuss your goal for the session with the certified hypnotherapist. This information is crucial for them to know where to take the session. Next, the hypnotherapist uses relaxation techniques to get you in a deeply relaxed state (a trance state). There is a myth that when you’re in this hypnotic state you lose control of your awareness and surroundings. No need to worry because that is not true. You are aware and conscious during the full session. The only difference is that you’re deeply relaxed which allows you to access other parts of your memories.
You are then guided through visualizations and questions to find the solution to your ailments. Hypnotherapy is pretty simple if you think about it. I have to note that you have control at all times. Therefore, if you don’t want to be hypnotized, none of this will work. You can also come out of hypnosis at any time.
Just a heads up, there may be some underlying emotions that may come up. It’s okay to express these emotions whether it’s through tears or laughs. The release needs to happen in order to heal and progress. After the session, most people feel relaxed and refreshed. Finally, you are able to remember the full session but it helps to watch a recording, if that is offered to you (it is offered more times than not).
Final thoughts
I hope this post gave you clarity regarding what hypnotherapy is. It is an alternative option available for you in your healing journey. I chose to write about this topic simply to bring it to your awareness so you can try it out if you feel called to it. As with other alternative options like this one, be sure to go into it with an open mind and without expectations.
A few final things to consider are that it is not appropriate for people who experience hallucinations or symptoms of psychosis. Hypnotherapy is generally safe but there are some cases of side effects including headaches, dizziness, and drowsiness. And it can produce false memories in some cases.
I’ve had one hypnotherapy past life regression so far and it was an eye opening experience. I found solutions to some questions I had after “traveling” to past lives to find the answer. I will definitely try it again in the future to see what else comes up. There is always more to uncover since we are such complex eternal beings! I found my hypnotherapist via word of mouth.
I’m curious to know what you thought about this post or topic. Would you try a hypnotherapy session? Let me know on Instagram. My DM’s are always open! Finally, as usual, THANK YOU for reading!
